Before his transformation, Monkey Wretch existed as a Human Mechanic named Monk, the fastest and best ship Repairman on his Tropical Island. A curious monkey began imitating Monk's every move, annoying the human. When the Djinn Nadakhan arrived, Monk made Three Wishes: to be the greatest mechanic of his "kind," to be so fast his tools were part of him, and for the bothersome monkey to disappear. Nadakhan, in his tricky way, granted these Wishes by fusing the man, the monkey, and his toolbox into a single, mechanical being, making him the best Mechanical Monkey Mechanic.
Monkey Wretch's Role :
As the Sky Pirates' head mechanic, Monkey Wretch fulfills a role within the Crew. He handles all the engineering for the Misfortune's Keep, keeping the vessel afloat and maintaining onboard technology with impressive speed and skill. Monkey Wretch demonstrated his intelligence by converting their base of operations into an airship, similar to the Raid Zeppelin and Sky Shark. In an alternate timeline, he even built advanced vehicles for Clouse, such as the Titanium Ninja Tumbler and Ultra Stealth Raider, powering them with Dark Matter.
Monkey Wretch's Interactions :
Monkey Wretch interacts with several Characters throughout the Ninjago: Skybound Season and related media. He primarily works alongside the Sky Pirates, including his Captain Nadakhan, the First Mate Flintlocke, Clancee, Doubloon, Cyren, Sqiffy, Bucko, and Dogshank. He often argues with Clancee, once reprimanding him for attempting to do the mechanic's job. Monkey Wretch battles the Ninja, specifically encountering Jay in a "Scrap-N-Tap" match which he wins. Cole and Zane also encounter him during various conflicts, with Cole once tossing him off the Misfortune's Keep.
