The Stone Army was created by the Overlord from an indestructible Dark Matter found on the Island of Darkness to help him defeat the First Spinjitzu Master. During an ancient conflict, the First Spinjitzu Master faced the Stone Army, whose warriors were almost invulnerable. Overwhelmed, the First Spinjitzu Master divided the land of Ninjago in two, trapping the active Stone Army and their Master, the Overlord, on the Island of Darkness, while the remaining Stone Warriors were sealed underground within Ninjago itself. The Stone Warriors, sealed in an underground tomb for years, were reawakened in the present day when the Great Devourer's venom seeped in. Once reawakened, the Stone Warriors caused chaos on Ninjago City, forcing the Ninja and citizens to evacuate. Lord Garmadon allied with the Overlord and used the Helmet of Shadows to gain control of the Stone Army. Garmadon uses the Helmet of Shadows to command the Stone Army, directing them to mine Dark Matter and build the Garmatron. The Stone Army's General was the four-armed Kozu, who was the only one capable of speaking both the ancient language and the modern Ninjago language, which made him Garmadon's translator. The Stone Army was nearly indestructible and immune to the Ninja's initial Elemental Attacks; only the powerful Elemental Blades forged at the Temple of Light or the ultimate Golden Power could effectively defeat them. Ultimately, the entire Stone Army was eventually destroyed when Lloyd defeated the Overlord in the Final Battle by using his Golden Power.
