Soto’s historical role in Ninjago's lore proves highly significant, establishing critical backstory long before the Ninja's time. Over two hundred years prior to the main events of the series, Captain Soto commanded the original Destiny's Bounty, then a sea-faring vessel. During this era, he battled the notorious Djinn Nadakhan and his Sky Pirates. Soto ultimately defeated Nadakhan, ingeniously using the Venom of a Tiger Widow Spider to Weaken the Djinn and subsequently trapping him inside the Teapot of Tyrahn, while stranding the rest of the Crew across various Realms. His search for the fabled Island of Darkness eventually led to his Crew's demise when his blind first mate, No-Eyed Pete, accidentally crashed the ship into the Ninjago cliffs.
Captain Soto Journey :
Lord Garmadon inadvertently resurrected Soto and his Crew in the episode "Pirates vs. Ninja" when he Wished for a Better Crew using the Mega Weapon. The Pirates immediately seized control of their ship, now the Ninja's flying headquarters, and began terrorizing Ninjago City for "treasure". The Ninja successfully stopped their crime spree, leading the police to arrest Soto and the Pirates. The police imprison them in Kryptarium Prison. Soto later briefly escaped confinement to participate in the high-stakes Ninjaball Run Race but crashed his vehicle.
Captain Soto's Support :
Captain Soto plays a supporting role during the Skybound Season, becoming a shocking ally to Ninja. The Djinn Nadakhan framed the Ninja for various crimes, leading to their imprisonment in Kryptarium Prison where they encountered Captain Soto. Additionally, Soto reveals the Secret to Defeating the Djinn, which the Tiger Widow Venom Weakens him and offers the information in exchange for his freedom. After the Ninja break him out, he aids Jay in gathering "Ninja Replacements" to launch a final attack on the newly formed Djinjago. Jay's Final Wish reverses all these events, returning Soto to Kryptarium with no memory of his heroic turn.
Soto's Interactions :
Throughout his appearances, Captain Soto interacts with a variety Characters, both as an antagonist and an ally. He commands his loyal, Crew members, including the First Mate and No-Eyed Pete. He engages in conflicts with Lord Garmadon, the Serpentine, Master Chen's Cultists, and the Sky Pirates under Nadakhan. In Kryptarium, he encounters the inmates; Mechanic and Ultra Violet. He still remain an enemy of the Main Ninja Team: Kai, Jay, Cole, Zane, Lloyd, and Nya. In addition, to being temporary allies with Dareth, Ronin, Skylor, and Echo Zane. Soto often refers to the Ninjas as "pajama men".
